Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
General FAQs
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic approach to optimal health based on the belief that your body, when given the right support, has the ability to heal itself. Using the healing power of nature and treatment strategies such as lifestyle advice, diet and nutrition and herbal medicine, you are physically, emotionally and mentally supported during the healing process.
Being a holistic treatment, the core aim of a Naturopathic treatment plan is to find the underlying cause of your ailment so that it can be treated and resolved, instead of treating only the symptoms.
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an effective and scientific system of healing that supports the body's natural tendency to heal itself. Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine used by over 200 million people worldwide to treat both acute and chronic conditions. It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment, not the disease.
The holistic nature of homeopathy means each person is treated as a unique individual and their body, mind, spirit and emotions are all considered in the management and prevention of disease.
Why should I see a Naturopath/Homeopath?
A Naturopathic practitioner will treat all of you, not just your illness. Naturopathic practitioners are trained to treat the whole person which requires taking the time to listen and understand the genetic, environmental, and behavioural/lifestyle factors that can affect your health. Having a thorough understanding of your unique case history, your treatment will be personalised with a unique treatment plan.
Your Natural Health practitioner will help you to actively participate in managing your own health, by helping you to understand your ailment and what your body needs to get well and stay healthy. This will help you to feel empowered and have hope that you can take control of your health.
Certain chronic health conditions such as chronic fatigue, digestive issues and autoimmune conditions can sometimes be difficult to diagnose and treat and can benefit from a holistic approach. Carine use diagnostic tools commonly used in conventional medicine, such as a detailed health history, prescription medicine intake, physical exams, and targeted laboratory or functional pathology testing. Combining that with a detailed diet history, lifestyle habits and choices, exercise history, and social/emotional factors will open doors to new treatment pathways and options

Will my health fund contribute?
From 1 April 2019, health funds regretfully ceased to pay for Natural Health therapies such as Naturopathy and Homeopathy. We have strong associations that are continuing to lobby the government for these therapies, and we hope this will change in the future. As Carine is registered in Nutritional Medicine, certain health funds will cover part of your consultation with Carine.

Consultation FAQs
How long does a consultation take?
An initial consultation with Carine will take 1.5 hours (90 minutes) as she takes time to listen and gather a thorough history and understanding of you.
When is the next follow up after the initial consultation?
It depends on the case, if it is an acute problem such as an acute infection like a bladder infection or flu, or acute anxiety/depression the next follow up would be 3-7 days after the initial consultation.
If the case is chronic with several health concerns, then the next follow up after the initial consultation would be in 2-3 weeks.
What happens during a consultation?
On your first visit, Carine will take a journey through your full health history to look for the cause of your problems. By treating the cause you get effective and long-lasting results – leaving you feeling better for longer!

What will the treatment plan and prescription consist of?

What does the script usually consist of?
The script usually combines a herbal formula, a Homeopathic formula, and nutritional medicine. Sometimes you may not receive a script immediately, as more time is needed to formulate it, or starting the treatment plan with lifestyle and dietary changes may be preferable. It all depends on your individual case and needs.
How long does it usually take before I start to feel better?
It would depend on the case. If you have a chronic condition, it may have taken years to develop. In that case, at least a month is needed for each year that it has taken you to develop your condition or perhaps several conditions. From experience, I find that in some cases, improvements in health and pathology levels happen quickly. I usually see positive changes in how you feel, such as more energy, feeling “cleaner”, and calmer, as well as improvements in bowel habits, etc., in 3-4 weeks.
If there are no results at all after 4-6 weeks, then it means we would have to dig deeper, for example, consider doing functional pathology tests and change the course of treatment. There is also the possibility that your body responds more slowly or has difficulty absorbing the herbs and nutrients, which will then be addressed.
During an acute treatment, I would expect to see improvement within 1-7 days.
What happens if I don’t start to feel better?
There will be an immediate reassessment of your case if there are no results at all after 4-6 weeks. Functional pathology tests may be considered as an option to change the course of treatment. What also happens is that you start to feel better and forget some of the smaller concerns that you had. That is why the follow-up appointment is so important, as I systematically go through all your initial concerns, and usually the improvements show up during that questioning process.
There is also the possibility that your body responds more slowly or has difficulty absorbing the herbs and nutrients, which will then be addressed.
